Summer Florals x Mary Jane Vaughan

As we transition into the summer season, we reached out to one of our trusted floral suppliers and flower guru Mary-Jane Vaughan to find out her top tips and trends for summer event florals. As summer is a prime time for flowers and weddings, find out more about the trends that Mary-Jane's team are spotting for the season ahead!

WHAT FLOWERS ARE IN SEASON THIS SUMMER?

The top 3 flowers of the season are sweet peas, cornflowers, nigella along with many other delicate meadow-like flowers that go so well at this time of the year, with grasses and light, airy foliage.

IS THERE A BENEFIT TO USING SEASONAL FLOWERS?

We love working with seasonal flowers as not only are they better value for money, but they are also fresher and better quality when they’re in their natural season. Add to this the sustainability factor and there is no doubt that local, seasonal flowers are the best option.

WHAT ARE THE TRENDS FOR SUMMER WEDDING FLOWERS IN TERMS OF COLOURS AND WHAT GOES WELL TOGETHER?

The current trending florals continue to be loose, natural, sustainable, and airy. The colours of the season most commonly are whites, yellows, oranges, purples and blues.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST POPULAR REQUESTS?

Our most popular requests at the moment are for colour – mixing gentle pastels with the occasional pop of colour.

FOR CLIENTS WHO WANT SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT, WHAT FLORALS WOULD YOU SUGGEST FOR THE SUMMER?

For clients who like something different, we may suggest unusual flower and colour combinations – we love mixing tropicals with seasonal flowers – anthuriums, for example,  look unexpectedly dramatic in a mix of summer flowers.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT TO DO WITH THE FLOWERS AFTER THE EVENT?

After the event, we always hope the clients take the flowers with them.  Otherwise we gift them.  We work in a small and busy trading estate in Battersea and when we have flowers that are in good condition after an event, we place them outside and they go in one second! If we are using plants in our designs, that we increasingly do so, then we donate these to charities.
